10th July.

Thunder and lightning during the night and then steady rain at about 4am onwards. Up at 8am to have breakfast at 8.30. Orange juice, tea, drinking chocolate, bread, home made jam and walnut cake. A good start for the day I'd say. Still looking like rain so on with the pack covers and off we go up the hill. Always seems to start with a uphill push. Looking back.

We decided to stick with the GR trail again today and again it took us along some pretty country lanes and tracks. good use of old car.

We go past a farm house and out comes a friendly dog. No barking with this one, it just falls into step beside us. It then starts running ahead having the time of it's life. Three or so kilometres down the road it is still with us. Tried shooing it off home but it obviously doesn't understand English. Tried a couple of times by yelling and throwing stones and in the end had to pelt some rocks it's way and chase it. Finally off it goes around a corner and when out of sight gives a few loud barks. What's with these dogs over here. Go down a track and come across this and you thought I was joking yesterday. Not even whole shell and someone is fixing it up whilst living in a caravan with kids.

More sweet green fleshed plums from along side the road and soon we were in Collonges-la-Rouge. This looked like a really pretty town but we walked straight through to get to the camp site to wash ourselves and the clothes and try to get them dry. Hadn't rained yet, but there hadn't been any sunshine either and the humidity was very high and we were drenched in sweat.

Gent at reception could understand English like we could understand French but we got a pitch, showered and washed some clothes and put the out to dry in what little sunshine there was, but boy it was hot when it came out. Annette asked me why I had one sock I didn't wash. I told her there were two cleans ones left for me to wear so we could visit the old village. Yeah, well why do we have 9 socks on the line? I'm not going in thongs so we went for a walk and found a dryer in the tv games block so other clothes washed and after a bit of a battle got the attendant to start the dryer. So what happens now, the clouds part and the sun comes out hot as.

Annette found out that there is a supermarket just around the corner so she went off to buy something for dinner tonight but found it closed. Clothes all dry and put away so into town to have a look around. Very interesting place and well worth a visit. Most of the town is made out of a red stone, unusual over here.

Had dinner in the town and made the mistake of having a couple of soft drinks which only attracted the attention of the wasp population. Back to camp and off to bed. An early start in the morning with a uphill slog first off.
